Energetic Gym Circuits

Today in Class Gym we were busy working around different circuits.  We worked in pairs and counted how many of each thing people could do at the stations.  We had to do star jumps, crazy running, squats, skipping, bean bag throwing and shuttle runs.  We also had a rest station to give everyone a chance to get their breath back!  We worked really well together and moved around the circuits safely and sensibly.  We worked hard at improving our fitness levels and cooperation skills. We also had lots of fun! Here are some pictures of our work.

 

Tasty Tatties!

In Primary 1 we planted some tatties in a barrel with Mr MacLeod.  Last week we decided to empty the barrel and see how many tatties had grown.  We only started with 3 tatties and we ended up with lots and lots!  We weighed them and we had 2.1 kg of tatties!  We cleaned them and boiled them and ate them with butter.  They were delicious!  Some people mashed them, some people took the skins off and some people ate them just as they were.  Mr Taylor thought they were the best tatties he had tasted!  The slideshow to the right shows the whole process!

Welcome to Primary 2!

We have had a brilliant two weeks in Primary Two so far!  A really great start to the term.  We have been getting to know Miss Shearer and have been settling into all the Primary 2 routines! We have had visits from buses, had some choosing time and had all kinds of active learning in the classroom! Here are some collages of our first two weeks at school.  Miss Shearer will be updating the blog every week (hopefully!) with information about what we are learning and lots of pictures so keep checking back!

The Play, Talk, Read Bus.  We had great fun singing songs on the bus!  We especially enjoyed the sleeping bunnies on the blue material!

The Challenger 4 Bus.  We also really enjoyed our visit to the Challenger Bus where we found about different Bible stories and got to play some fun games.  Our favourite bit was definitely the puppet show about the Good Shepherd and his Lost Sheep!

 

 

We have been doing lots of active learning in maths and exploring adding and subtracting sums.  Here is some photos of our activities!

 



Finally after all our hard work we needed some Golden Time!  We are really enjoying playing in our shop and we are always finding ways to make new tracks with the marble run!

P1 Books

Here are primary 1 working very hard on their own reading books.  They are being authors and illustrators this week.  When the books are ready they will share them with other pupils in the school and then you will get them home.  

Safe in the sun

We are finally getting some good weather!  We have been speaking about being 'sun safe' in class and the children have had some good suggestions about this

•  sun cream
•  sunglasses
•  longer sleeves
• wear light colours (dark colours get hot in the sun)
•  a sun hat

If you would like your child to wear sun cream, pop some in their school bag so they can apply it before going outside.  

Toys project

We are well and truly underway with our project about Toys.  Thank you for letting the children take in a toy from the past.  It has helped us to learn about what toys used to be made out of and were able to compare it to toys today.

We have been looking at a village in Zambia, where children do not have lots of new, expensive toys but need to use their imaginations and make their own fun.  We tried this today using simple wooden blocks, bits of cloth and some junk materials - I was very impressed with how imaginative the children were.  The class have asked to do this activity again.  One child said "I've noticed that anything can be a toy".

Reading skills.

This week in primary 1 we have been using books a lot.  We have done work on our reading books and used castle books to help us with our topic.
"I can find facts in a book" - The class have had to find 3 jobs that happened in castles.

We have used our reading books to follow instructions, put events in the right order and look for clues.
