Super Sports Relief

On Friday we had lots of fun raising money for Sports Relief.  Primary 7 had organised a great afternoon of events in the school.  We all dressed up in sporty clothes  - we even had a jouster in Primary 2!  We had a go on lots of the stalls but our favourite was Soak the Teacher!  Mr McIntosh was the prime target and although some of us in P2 didn’t look strong we got the sponges right on target!  A big thank you to Primary 7 and Mrs Leitch for organising such a great afternoon and raising money for a very worthy cause.

Printing at the Pier!

Yesterday we went to the Pier Arts Centre to take part in a workshop with the staff there.  Here we are getting ready to look at some artwork and create some art of our own.  In the background you can see the piece of art which was used to inspire us!

We created a print as our piece of art.  First a group had to make the background.  We used very thick paint and rollers to make our prints on fabric.

Then the next two groups added on details by making patterns in polystyrene and then putting the paint on them and using the roller to press the paint onto the fabric.  We thought about designs like the sea and we also thought about symmetrical patterns as we have been learning about symmetry in maths!

It was a great experience and we are very thankful to the Pier Arts Centre for letting us come and make such a great piece of artwork.  The pieces which P2 and the rest of the school have made will be on display from this Saturday with the preview beginning at 2pm!  Come along and see what you think of our work!

Symmetry in the Sun!

Today we took advantage of the glorious sunshine and went outside to do some learning about symmetry.  We used chalk to draw shapes and find the line of symmetry. Then we added detail on both sides so they were symmetrical! It was great to be out learning in the sunshine.  It made it so much easier!  We know that both sides of something have to be exactly the same or else it isn't symmetrical.  It was a bit tricky at times to keep things the same on the bumpy ground but we managed!

Wonderful World Book Day!

What fun we had yesterday on World Book Day!  We dressed up, spoke about books, listened to stories and watched P5's excellent assembly where they gave us a character quiz and read us stories!  Here are some pictures of us in our wonderful costumes!

Daisy, The Swan Princess and The Tiger who Came to Tea.

The Mouse from the Gruffalo, Funnybones and Matilda.

Spiderman, Ally the Dolphin Fairy and Cinderella.

Tigger, Heather the Violet Fairy and Buzz Lightyear.

Spiderman, Doc McStuffin and Super Soccer Boy.

Little Red Riding Hood and Spiderman.

Ashley the Cheerleader and Fern from Charlotte's Web.

The whole school made lots of effort to dress up and we had a great day so thank you to everyone who helped with costumes and accessories!  Here's a whole class photo and there seems to be a very fluffy Cat in the Hat in the picture!

Our Visit to the Hamnavoe

Last Tuesday we went on a visit to the Hamnavoe.  It was a brilliant trip!  We learned lots about the ship, had crisps and juice on board and even got a special Viking t-shirt as a souvenir!  We started our visit by walking through the Terminal Building and along the walkway.  We met our 'Tour Guide' John who was going to show us around.  Then we set off!

We got to see inside some of the cabins.  There were really small ones and also a bigger one which could fit a wheelchair inside.  The whole of Primary 2 could fit in this cabin!

Then we went to the next deck on board.  We were given our t-shirts and changed into them.  We got our photo taken with a picture of the Northlink Viking - Magnus.  You can see us doing our Magnus poses!

Then we got taken through some corridors which said 'Crew Only'!  It was very exciting.  We went all the way up to the Bridge of the ship where we learned about how the boat turns and saw all the different computers which help to run the boat.  We also got to meet the Captain of the Hamnavoe!

When we were in the Bridge we were allowed to sit in the Captain's Chair and wear his hat!  It was great fun!  Miss Shearer even had a go!  See if you can spot us in our role as Captain of the Hamnavoe!

Being Captain was tiring work so we went for a sit down in the Restaurant.  Here we had a crisp and juice stop!

After a peedie rest we were raring to go and so we headed on to the Outside Deck of the Hamnavoe!  We saw the lifeboats and where they keep a special chute to slide down incase of emergencies.  Then we got very brave and went up to the highest point on the Hamnavoe - right on the very top!  It was very high and quite windy up there but it was exciting to be right on the top of the ship!

We came back down and headed back to school.  It was a great trip and we will remember it for a while to come!  Thank you to everyone who helped to organise the trip and make it so much fun for us!

A vist from Clyde!

Yesterday SPS were very lucky to get a visit from Commonwealth Games Mascot CLYDE!  He came to tell us all about the Commonwealth games.  He took his friend, Fraser, with him to tell us all about them too!

We were very exited when Mr McIntosh told us we were getting a special visitor.

We had to shout Clyde's name really loud so he could hear us!  Then he came in!

Fraser and Clyde told us lots of information about the Commonwealth Games.  Then they gave us a quiz!  We got the answers all right!

Then Clyde wanted to race a teacher!  We picked Miss Kelday!  The raced up and down the hall.

Before we knew it, it was time to say goodbye to Clyde.  We had a whole school photograph taken with him before he left!

We were very lucky to get the chance to meet Clyde as he is a very busy mascot! We said a big thank you and off he went!  A fun way to spend Monday afternoon!

Hamnavoe Visit

Today we went on our class trip to the MV Hamnavoe!  It was very exciting and great fun.  Miss Shearer took nearly 100 pictures of our visit so she is going to sort them out and get them ready for the blog but until then here is a photo of us with the Captain and John who showed us around!
It was a great day!
